The AREC Trail Running Group was begun in November 2006, in an effort to continue with a regular Saturday running group (marathon training runs May through October) and also to pique interest in trail running and racing. The groups vary in size, but have ranged from 10 - 30 runners.
People wishing to participate in the Trail Runs are advised that Trail Running is more difficult than street running. More often than not, there will be no restrooms and no drinking fountains, as well as uneven surfaces, wild animals, poisonous plants and badly marked trails. Any runner participating in these runs should carry sufficient water (at a minimum, a FULL water bottle) and either have knowledge of the trails OR run with the group.
Please expect to run at least 1-2 minutes per mile slower than your usual road pace. Please stay hydrated and in contact with others in the group. There have been incidents where runners have gotten lost for extended periods of time or severely dehydrated; the incidents could have been avoided if the runners took the appropriate precautions. Repeated incidents will probably end any organized trail runs, so be conscientious.
As a result, it is required that you complete an indemnification form before running. The form is available online or from coordinator Bob Filacchione prior to carpooling to the trail locations.
AREC members can join the Trail Mailing List, by requesting a subscription through our Mailing List page.
